Healthy Living Centre

The construction and completion of the new “flagship” Healthy Living Centre community building in a residential area.

The project comprised the construction of a new multifunctional sports/community building on an existing confined site adjacent to the existing Healthy Living Centre, playing fields, local housing, primary school and shops.

Existing infrastructure was reorganised to provide additional parking to the existing centre before the demolition of the existing mobile library building and brick changing facilities.

The building consisted of steel framed structure on strip and pad foundations with cavity walls, pre-cast floor slabs, facing block work, external plastered walls and both composite and built up metal roof systems and associated Services Installations. External works included drainage, landscaping, timber decked communal area and site works. New facilities consist of main hall, changing facilities, offices and ancillary areas.

Finish to the highest standard in line with multi-functional community buildings the new facility now provides the Creggan community with an outlet for sports and physical activities. The main hall is finished in granwood flooring providing a multi-use high quality finish yet being environmentally sustainable consisting of recycled softwood and linseed oil.

The existing confined site presented many challenges for the site team particularly in the delivery of material and sequencing of site activities. Through regular liaison with the local community, shops and schools and the introduction of many considerate contractors’ indicatives ensured the project was completed with minimum disruption to the local community.

Detailed programme and cash flow analysis ensured the delivery of the scheme in line with the client’s expectations on time, budget and safety.
