St. John's Sports Facility

New build community and multi-functional sports centre with 3-court sports hall, together with minor hall, chaining rooms and ancillary accommodation. This project was funded by Big Lottery.

The project consisted the erection and completion of a new part single storey, part two storey complex on strip and pad foundations, with a steel frame, double skinned insulated metal roofing, part facing brick/rendered masonry external skin, aluminium windows and doors with a total internal floor area of approx 1462m2.

Accommodation includes a main hall, minor hall, fitness facilities, changing areas, community hall and ancillary areas.

The building features a number of passive energy saving measures, including optimisation of solar gain, being flooded by natural light and natural cross ventilation.

The difficulties associated with constructing this split level building on the existing confined sloping site where overcome by the site management team through the early construction of retaining walls and deep excavations, thus freeing up additional space on site and providing a safer working environment for all.

Due to the limited budget a number of value engineering session where undertaken to establish a design and specification in keeping with client expectations and budget. The project was complete on time and budget.
