Enniskillen I.P.S.

The phased construction of a new 8 class room Integrated Primary School on the site of the existing school at Derrygore Road in Enniskillen. 

 

Phase 1

  • Construction of a retaining wall, remedial works to the existing access roads and site fencing.
  • Classroom blocks.
  • Assembly hall, dining hall and kitchen.
  • Library, offices, stores and welfare facilities.
  • Car park and hard standing play area.
  • Associated landscape works.

Phase 2

  • Demolition of the former school
  • Provision of additional car parking spaces.
  • Completion of the access roads and school bus loading bays.
  • Associated landscaping works.

Phase 3

  • Reconstruction and regrading of the Derrygore road.

 

The school is a mainly single storey and part two storey on part concrete piled & concrete strip foundations with part pre-cast and in situ concrete ground floor slab, block work walling and concrete tile pitched roofing on timber rafters.  The multipurpose hall is constructed using a structural steel frame.

The construction products and methods used in the building have been researched and chosen on the basis of quality and value. The walls and roof of the building have been fitted with Kingspan roof and wall systems which deliver the benefits of an efficient double layered insulation system. The building is fitted with an energy efficient thermal under floor heating system which works in conjunction with a heat pump.  Grey-water recycling tanks are installed underground to collect rain water which is pumped back into the school and used to flush toilets etc.

The land to the rear of the school was excavated to allow more land on which to build, made possible by the innovative design of the contractor designed Anchor retaining wall system.  Apart from the aesthetically pleasing factor the advantages of the retaining wall include engineering strength and stability, fast construction, availability in a range of sizes and colours, minimal maintenance and reliability of geogrid reinforced earth backfill.

The external landscaping to the scheme finishes off the site in a visually attractive way, but also (through choice of plants) provides an additional line of security to certain areas.
