St. Mary’s, Drumragh

Construction of a single storey Sacrasty block extension and the restoration of the existing Grade B listed church in Drumragh, Co Tyrone.

Situated three miles south-west of the town of Omagh, St Mary’s Church, Drumragh in its rural setting is typical of the period of chapel building which succeeded the relaxation of the Penal Coeds. Founded in 1764 the church is the oldest church in continuous use in the Diocese of Derry. Having undergone numerous modifications and improvements the latest brief presenting the opportunity to re-evaluate how the church can best meet the needs of the modern liturgy through a new architectural order of this Grade B Listed Building.

The works consist of the construction of a single storey sacristy extension approximately 160ft2. The design of the new sacristy block is respectful in scale and in choice of materials and in detail of it elements. Consisting of  in-situ concrete foundations and floor, block work walls, timber cladding to parts of external walls, double glazed timber windows and doors, zinc and natural slate roof coverings, external plaster to match existing internal plaster and plasterboard ceilings, hot and cold water installation, power and light installations, building fittings, boiler house, decoration and floor finishes.

Conservation of the Grade B church, approximate area 800ft2, consists of removal of existing floor, internal and external plaster, existing roof covering, provide new concrete ground floor, new natural slate roof covering; repair to existing windows and existing doors (undertaken in our own joinery workshop), repairs to existing roof structure and existing ceilings, restoration of natural stone work, constructing new internal timber porches, new floor finishes and decoration, new rain water goods, new building fittings including pews and altar furniture, new heating and electrical services.

External works comprise removal of existing sacristy building, excavation to reduce levels, formation of access road with hardcore and bitmac finish, new traffic control gates, new drainage system and new septic tank, provision of ducting for incoming services.
